As schools begin their summer holidays, Guangzhou South Railway Station is anticipating a surge in passenger traffic this upcoming weekend. From July 19 to 22, it is expected that the station will see an average of 670,000 passenger trips each day.
Since the start of the summer travel rush, the station has seen a total of about 8.78 million passenger trips and operated 13,000 high-speed trains. From July 11 to 16, the station consistently served over 300,000 passenger trips per day for six consecutive days.
In order to meet the demand for tourism and family visits, Guangzhou South Railway Station has announced plans to operate 49 additional high-speed trains from July 19 to 22. This includes 24 extra trains on weekends and 12 overnight high-speed trains.
The details are as follows: 9 trains from Guangzhou South Railway Station to Shenzhen North Railway Station, 7 to Chaoshan, 6 to Wuhan, 6 to Zhangjiajie West Railway Station, 12 from Shenzhen North Railway Station to Changsha South Railway Station (via Guangzhou South Railway Station), 2 from Yueyang East Railway Station to Shenzhen North Railway Station (via Guangzhou South Railway Station), 4 from Zhanjiang West Railway Station to Guangzhou South Railway Station, and 3 from Changsha South Railway Station to Guangzhou South Railway Station.
During peak periods, Guangzhou South Railway Station will maximize the use of 72 real-name verification channels and 50 security checkpoints. Express lanes will be designated at entry to provide priority access for passengers arriving within 15 minutes of their train's departure, ensuring swift and efficient service.
Summer travel rush drives China Railway Guangzhou Group to transport 31.2 million passenger trips
Amidst the bustling summer travel rush that kicked off on July 1, China Railway Guangzhou Group has recorded an impressive 31.2 million passenger trips as of July 16. This figure marks a year-on-year increase of 130,000 travelers, averaging out to approximately 1.95 million daily journeys.
According to the data, the number of passenger trips sent and arrived in Guangdong Province was 19.50 million and 18.53 million respectively, and the number of those sent and arrived in Hunan Province was 10.19 million and 9.62 million respectively.
The trio of cities leading the passenger surge are Guangzhou, Changsha, and Shenzhen, with respective numbers of 6.91 million, 4.05 million, and 3.65 million passenger trips. These travelers' destinations of choice are predominantly major tourist hubs such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu.
In response to this heightened demand, commencing on July 16, the Chongqing-Xiamen High-speed Railway (渝厦高铁) introduced six additional peak-hour trains to accommodate the travel demands. Details of these additional trains include:
From July 17 to 31, G9769 and G9770 will operate between Changsha and Longshanbei Railway Station, while G9771 and G9772 will serve the Changsha to Zhangjiajie West Railway Station route.
For a shorter duration, from July 16 to 21, G9778 will be added to the Changsha-Zhangjiajie West Railway Station schedule, and reciprocally, G9777 will run from Zhangjiajie West Railway Station to Changsha from July 17 to July 22.
